Lyotard's theory

Image
"LYOTARD ARGUES THAT SOCIETY MAINTAINS STABILITY THROUGH META-NARRATIVES, WHICH ARE STORIES A CULTURE USES TO STRUCTURE IT'S PRACTICES AND BELIEFS. IN POSTMODERNISM THESE META-NARRATIVES ARE NO LONGER CENTRAL AND THEREFORE SOCIETY IS NO LONGER STABLE, BUT FLUID."

Questionnaire For Audience

Filming Day 1

Image
Jordan's House Wake up scenes - We used Jordan's house and as expected, his room fitted the theme of our song very well. This was because of the many posters around and the colour scheme of the room. We filmed one long continuous take of Claudia in various positions in bed that we can cut into shorter shots of whatever length we require. We also decided to film a couple of shots of her eating pizza and drinking coffee in bed. Claudia's Coffee Scenes - to avoid a long journey, we used Jordan's house. The shots were successful. Coffee Shop Scenes - We attempted to recreate a cafe in Jordan's garden but upon reviewing our footage, we have decided to refilm this scene in an actual cafe. Beechwood Playing Field Running Scene - It took a few shots to get footage that we liked as we found it hard not to laugh whilst pretending to have an argument.  Claudia Reading - This was originally going to be a solo shot by itself but whilst filming we decided it would w...

Story Boards

Image
Here are our story boards to guide us in what to film and the ordering of clips for our final video.

Inspiration for Actor/Artist

Image
Nothing But Thieves' If I Get High is our inspiration when deciding to have an actor for our narrative rather than using the artist. We like the way the band is seen on the TV within the narrative and we are planning on recreating this in our own video.

Shooting Schedule Day 1

11:00 - Jordan's house - filming Claudia, waking up. 12:30 - Park - Claudia on bench reading/ long shot           - Male walking over singing song           - Claudia packs up and leaves 13:20 - Boy and Cailin arguing out front           - Zoom onto computer screen - green screen band playing 14:00 - Cailin bedroom, wakes up getting ready           - Opening wardrobe door           - Round head to see make up done for run           - Smoothie making           - Running shots

Name of Our Artist

The final name of our artist is: Alex Anderson  We have chosen this name because we like the alliteration and think it makes his name more memorable. Another way in which our name is more memorable is that the name Alex is very common, meaning that most people will have friends and family with the name Alex. This therefore, will attract a wider audience to listen to him.

Post filming day discussion with teacher

After speaking to our teacher, she suggested we find a way of incorporating the test shots we had taken on our holidays as it will increase our location diversity. She gave us some narrative ideas to consider and mentioned us filming some more filler shots of the stereotypical mean girl and the lead male in order to give more context to the narrative of our video.

Make up ideas

Image
This is the style of make up that our stereotypical, mean girl character will wear. We decided to make her heavily done up because of the line "tiresome paper dreams", it is also easy to contrast the two indie characters through make up.   Our indie character will wear very natural make up if any at all. We decided this because the line in the song, "tempered firs and mangled boots," gave us the impression that she is not overly fussed about her appearance. We also believed it will make her the more relatable character out of the two.

Locations List

Our target audience questionnaire told us that locations are an important aspect when it comes to creating a music video. Therefore we have brainstormed a number of locations that we plan to film in:   King Georges Park  Camden, London Oxfords Street, London Westfield Shopping Centre Indie Bedroom Coffee Shop Beechwood Playing Field Girly Bedroom

Weather Reflection on Day One of Filming

Most of our filming was inside so the weather was not a massive concern to us during our first day of filming. Whilst filming some of the shots at Beechwood Playing Fields, it did begin to lightly rain. However, it was not heavy enough to be seen on camera or to effect the quality of our footage. For this, we were very grateful. via GIPHY

Props List

Numerous outfits for all characters and band members Musical instruments Laptop Coffee cups Mirror Bed Mobile Phones Green Smoothie Make up bag Earphones Reading book Hair straighteners Hair brush

Equipment List

iPhone 6 (at least) - to film our footage on in good quality Digital Camera - as back up, in case there is a problem with the iPhones  Spare Phone - to play the song from whilst filming for narrative Mac - to edit our video on Green Screen - for use of overlays and location changes Strong Lights - for optimum green screen effectiveness

Our Influences

The Killers The Killer's are a very successful indie rock band similar to The Kooks. The main reason we want to use The Killer's to influence our production of a music video is that their song "Mr Brightside"'s video has been in the Top 100 every year since 2004. The band itself also does not have a stereotypical 'rock star' look, however their narratives often do. This is something we are looking at mirroring: perhaps, with the band having a very 'rock star' feel whilst the narrative is less so. via GIPHY The Wombats The Wombats have a very indie look which matched the genre of our song choice nicely. Within the videos, the band members are portrayed as very down to earth which is something we would like to mirror in ours. In addition, they always perform with a teddy wombat which I think is a good way of creating this effect and something we could take inspiration from as we would be able to sell, for example, the wombat teddies as merc...

My Initial Ideas

My Initial Idea - Created with Haiku Deck, presentation software that inspires

Introduction to my blog

Image
My name is Cailin Brisbourne, candidate number 1157. Last year, I created a two minute film opening called Skitz. Prior to this, I had no experience in the subject of media Studies. I therefore, learnt a great deal from filming techniques to editing tips. We were fortunate to have a very experienced member of our group when it came to filming and editing who taught me a lot of what I now know. I would like, in year 13, to develop these skills further and be more proactive in our production. This year our task is: a promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, together with a Digipak for the album's release and a magazine advertisement / tour poster for the Digipak. My group consists of Mia O'Brien, Claudia Messenger and myself.
